Off-road, natural terrain trails. 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Can anyone point me in the direction of off-raod trails (other than Short Hills) in the St.Catharines, Niagara Falls, Fonthill area? I ride to all my biking destinations due to Jeep problems that I will NOT fix so trails need to be semi-close to me (Port Dalhousie). I enjoy the Short Hills, especially trail #2, but I need something different, for a change. I'm not interested in road paths at all. I paid good money for 7" of travel so I want to use it as much as I can.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out. :)

I lived near Port Dalhousie for a while...there are off-road paths in the park/forest area near the start of the Welland Canal, which you can get to from the area at Port Dalhousie by following the general route of the Waterfront Trail...

That said, the off-road area there is quite small - hopefully another response will have more information for you.

Try the trails that start below Brock U.. They can also be accessed from downtown St. Catharines by crossing the 406 on the foot bridge behind the rockpile.

This was suggested to me by Dennis Munn of the Niagara Freewheelers

Follow the 12 Mile Creek! Basically just ride out of Port Dalhousie on Martindale Rd, over the QEW, untill the start of the Merritt Trail (across from the stoplights at Erion Rd).

Option 1) Simply follow the trail, keeping the creek on your left (East). This will eventually get you to Short Hills Provincial Park, but there are many trails along the way. Many of the new trails near Glendale Rd were made by Liberty bikes for their summer race series. The red arrows mark their course.

Option 2) Do the reverse of the Lake-to-Lake race course until you get to Brock U. See map at: http://www.mapmyride.com/route/ca/on/port%20colbourne/666547187111

A great place to start is at Glendale and the 12 Mile Creek. There are many ways to go from there and there is a pedestrian bridge across the creek. This is at about the 39 KM marker on the above map.
