The Ontario Greenbelt

The Toronto-Niagara Bike Train is The Greenbelt Express! Ontario's Greenbelt is a 1.8 million acre stretch of green space surrounding the Greater Golden Horseshoe from the Niagara Region to Peterborough. Encompassing the Niagara Escarpment, the Oak Ridges Moraine, Rouge Park, hundreds of rural towns and villages and some 7,100 farms, Ontario's Greenbelt is the largest and most diverse in the world.

From fresh fruits and vegetables to maple syrup, honey and award-winning wines, the Greenbelt has something for everyone. Cycling is the perfect way to explore the Greenbelt and all it has to offer.

 A World Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO designated the Niagara Escarpment, part of the Greenbelt, a World Biosphere Reserve in 1990 to recognize its unique biological features; including 500 bird species, 55 animal species, and 37 varieties of orchid.

In addition to natural areas, over 50% of the Greenbelt is agricultural land and heritage protected from urban sprawl. Farmers produce a diversity of food and help protect the environment.
